Things to Do in Bangkok
All visits to Thailand start with a trip to the Grand Palace, and rightly so. Just around the corner you’ll also find some brilliant museums and arts venues, including the Folk Museum, Fashion Trend Center and the off-beat Corrections Museum, housed in a former prison. For a spot of shopping - and the finest hotels in the city - head for Bangkok's modern commercial core of Siam Square and the upmarket Sukhumvit. Silom is the place to head for Bangkok’s infamous nightlife, while you’ll find the most breathtaking temples and shrines around the multicultural Yaowarat and Phahurat areas. And lastly, no visit to the city is complete without exploring its frenetic markets, where you’ll find thousands of stalls selling all and everything - Chatuchak Weekend Market is perhaps the best known, with over 8,000 stalls to explore.

Driving Around Bangkok
Bangkok is served by two airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Airport. Both are about 30 km (19 miles) from the city centre. Roads in and around Bangkok can become heavily congested, so driving here isn’t for the faint-hearted! Three major highways head into Bangkok from all directions of Thailand. The best way in from the north is to take the Phahonyothin Road (Route 1), which comes from Mae Sai near the Myanmarese border. Sukhumvit Road (Route 3) comes from cities in Eastern Thailand, such as Trat, Pattaya and Chonburi, while Phetkasem Road (Route 4) comes all the way from the Malaysian border and serves Southern Thailand.
